There's also the movie version "Lady of Burlesque", usually available to watch on youtube, starring the great Barbara Stanwyck and based on that novel of Ms. Lee's (nee Hovick). It's a lot of fun, and considering the Production Code in effect, still quite amazing how they got around it to some extent. Some of those other strippers backstage in the movie are great creations like the later Tessa Tura, Mazeppa and Electra and played to the hilt by those actresses in the cast. Oh, who can resist Stanwyck's act -- with her own singing voice for a change -- and even though the censor cuts away during some bumps and grinds -- the edits of the drummer immensely enjoying himself and the comedian's reactions off-stage in the wings -- still make it a very sexy and entertaining number. I've linked that below. Plus the other number which features Stanwyck doing splits and with comedian Pinky Lee doing cartwheels, jitterbugs, etc.
