If you read my two posts lower down in this thread, I discuss Sessue Hayakawa, a major star in Hollywood silents, and Anna May Wong (in reply to krebsman), who was well-known but a supporting player, not a star, in silents (and not a huge number of silents, there were probably few roles for her).

Bert Williams made two shorts for Biograph, which had earlier hired him to produce, direct, write and star in a full-length film, Lime Kiln Club Field Day, which was never completed. The footage has been found, and I think you can probably watch it online.

Evelyn Preer starred in a number of silent films, but they were not Hollywood productions. They were all independent films, produced and directed by Oscar Micheaux, whose production company was in Chicago. I would guess that few white filmgoers during the period she was active in silent films would have recognized her name.

Josephine Baker starred in French silents, but I believe no Hollywood silents.
