| One reason I didn't play and am usually ambivalent about these kinds of contests: there's a difference between picking who you you'd like to win and who you think is actually going to win (the latter being more likely to presumably win the contest). So it kind of results in a kind of cognitive dissonance as you're maybe a little torn between wanting to win the contest and wanting the person you really want to win (if they aren't the favorite). Not that I take it all that seriously anyway, since there are some performances and shows over the years which haven't won which were in time more memorable than the actual award winners. But I've done some Oscar show picks at parties, so it's fun -- just remember having those two different ways of thinking. |
