There's clearly much more to this than they are saying at the moment.

As you mention, you don't do an on-stage press launch sitting alongside the creatives and then performing extracts from the show, not to mention red carpet appearances alongside Katie Brayben saying that you are opening the show on Broadway, without your contract having been properly negotiated and signed. It's either terrible work from his agent to let him take part if the negotiations weren't complete at the time of the announcement, or there's been an fall out (it's a show with more than its fair share of egos) or they've tried to renegotiate (for whatever reason) and the producers refused to budge. It's definitely not a great look to say "we got into a situation where we couldn't quite find terms that made everyone happy - which is why normally they don't announce an actor before the contract" when he was a key part of that announcement. No one comes out of it well.

Whilst his name is no longer on the website (which seems to have been hastily re-edited - it still says "Reprising their celebrated West End performances, the divine cast is led by two-time Olivier Award winner Katie Brayben as Tammy Faye." where they've pulled out his name) - the pictures/clips from the launch are still on the instagram feed.
