More thoughts and trivia about the Tonys

* The first category was Leading Actor in a Play. Were they trying to snag ''Succession'' fans early? Leading Actress wasn't given out until the last half-hour.
* The video clips for the first acting categories was a good idea. I guess the ones for the other categories got cut because of time.
* ''Water for Elephants'' was the only Best Musical nominee that walked away empty-handed. But I thought their segment was one of the more entertaining ones: with its acrobatics and a catchy country tune: ''The Road Don't Make You Young.'' Too bad they didn't slip in a glimpse of their ''elephant.''
* It was classy of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (''Appropriate'') to acknowledge the legacy of Ossie Davis (''Purlie Victorious'').
* The Tonys needed ex-NFL player Nate Burleson and Solomon Thomas of the Jets to introduce Tony winner Jeffrey Wright?
* The last time I recall a football player at the Tonys was when then-Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez introduced ''Memphis'' because he loved the show.
* For all the fuss over having "Stereophonic" perform, its minute-and-a-half segment was too short to stand out.
* I wish I could ban winners from reciting their long speeches off their phones or paper. But there were some genuine and moving moments of emotion.
* Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad, as the ''Gutenberg!'' guys, were the night's comic highlight. Maybe they oughta host the Tonys next time!
