He was saying that this was his first Tony *for a Sondheim show* - not his first overall Tony (which was for “Titanic” in 1997, the year the Tonys introduced the Orchestrations category.)
He was alluding to his storied career with Sondheim, and his pleasure in finally getting a Tony for his work on a Sondheim show
Edit: well, in the time I wrote that, a few others said the same thing. Busy night on All That Chat, I suppose! |
