Some of the direction was strange (it’s an odd reference point but the ensemble members literalizing Barrett’s Song were a distraction straight out of Spielberg’s “Somethin’ Comin”)

To clarify - if you meant the "boys from the midlands" hanging out in the shadows, yes, that was odd. Especially as they weren't working - in the original production Barrett and I think two other men were actually shoveling coal at points in the song.

The other moment was when two ladies appeared on the top deck in front of the orchestra, as Barrett sings about being "seven decks below a dainty lady's feet" - but a form of this was in the original production, where the Captain entered onto the bridge above with a first class female passenger, showing her around. That moment didn't bother me.
