What do Suffs and Lempicka have in common?

With the release today of the original cast recording of Lempicka, I know I can safety put to rest any lingering questions I had about these two scores. All style no substance. Both ramble on interminably with excellent orchestrations in search of a melody or motif. Both are emotionally overstuffed with little to no pay off. Both barely know what era they want us to feel like we are in. Both feel like early drafts, when sadly both are over a decade each in development and this is what we are left with.

Will Suffs win best score? Maybe. It’s not deserving.

How many times will I listen to these cast recordings over the coming years like I listen to other flops like “Jimmy” or “The Act”- hardly as much as those. That’s me. Others will disagree strongly. That’s okay.
