We saw it Wednesday night and were underwhelmed. Highlights for me: Ashlyn Maddox was very good (and I agree she was serving Ann-Margret but in a fun way and I also got some Rebecca Luker energy from her which is a high compliment); I enjoyed her voice and she was all-in. Richard Kind is a pro and a treasure. Ephraim Sykes is very talented and I was willing to go with the Little Richard interpretation in 2024 since at this point the show seems untethered from actual rock stars. The 'Going Steady' song was very cute.

Lowlights: cheap-looking production felt only semi-staged in places, Christian Borle disappeared and I had no idea why Rosie would be in love with him. The actress who played Rosie was good and I liked her singing but her dancing was workmanlike. I couldn't wait for the number with the briefcase and the number with CB at the end to be over. When the music swelled I just thought "oh here we go trying to make something happen". Zero magic.

As for the rest of it...parts were cute, but it never took off. The datedness of the material really hung over the whole production. A bunch of professionals trying hard to sell something that really felt like a relic and totally irrelevant to the moment. Crowd seemed into it but if I were an investor considering Broadway this would be a hard 'no'.
