I would be a little surprised if there was a significant contribution by the record company. The marketing isn't really emphasizing that his new album; I didn't even know the new album's title until I went hunting in preparation for writing this message. If it were in fact intended to market the album, it didn't work all that well -- the new album did not make it into the overall Billboard 200, although it made into the album sales chart at #24. (The Billboard 200 takes into account streaming as well as sales.) That's a big step down from his first two albums, which made it onto the Billboard 200 at #18 and #84, and Top Album Sales at #3 and #8.

(Looking at his old chart achievements made me realize I forgot what a big deal Dear Evan Hansen was when it first opened. The cast recording made the Top 10 of the overall Billboard 200, which is an extremely rare feat for a cast album. I think Book of Mormon and Hamilton may be the only other cast albums to do that in the past fifty years. It's too bad the movie was so poorly received that it kind of damaged the property.)
