That is true, too. But there's a big difference between not being heard and not being understood. On that recording from Les Mouches posted below, she clearly has a wonderful singing voice, but I know that song (my brother used to play Al Jolson's recording of it), and the lyrics she is singing are pretty indecipherable for much of it. The voice is impressive, but it's like a big beautiful canvass missing many details of the painting.
