I still can't quite believe we live in the reality where we got a smash hit revival of Hello Dolly on Broadway starring legend and global star (for 4 decades) Bette Midler, and on the Tonys they gave us David Hyde Pierce alone doing a song that was cut and never added back for a reason, and nothing else. It was like watching a prank being played. I think people at home were baffled, to say nothing of the massive disappointment of not getting one of the real numbers from Dolly, let alone with Bette.

it was like a threat that was meant as an intimidation move but was an empty threat... but then no one stopped it. I feel like everyone backstage and in the booth was just looking around saying "someone's going to stop this right? Bette is coming out from somewhere right? Someone is handling this... right? RIGHT?!!"

(DHP is amazing, always glad to see him perform, but jesus come on)
