Nothing obvious. Maybe Bobby's dilemma reminded Sondheim of typical 1940's movies in which the leadig lady was frequently in love with multiple suitors.

Similarly Sondheim's Road Show is full of allusions to the Hope-Crosby series of "Road to" movies. My guess is that Sondhem (as a teenager) was a fan of certain 1940's films and incorporated some amusing 40's cliches into a couple of his shows if he thought it would be an amusing commentary.
