I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that Lockhart's reading was "painful to listen to" - but I do think it would have been classier and more interesting to have a guest host narrating, and/or to have the singers introduce each other's sets. I'm surprised that Danieley didn't have that planned in the flow of the evening. Unless Lockhart insisted that he do it himself?

Or - it probably comes down to budget. (I assume the singers would get paid more to do such narration? Perhaps even that was over budget?)
