Seems to me that, especially with the handheld mic right up in his face, he's singing this in the manner of a pop song, not a theatre song as I assume he does in show context. So the diction is relaxed.
Form dictates content. :-) (Sondheim famously said that the other way around, but here I think it fits in this direction.) |
