I can't imagine Giamatti wanting to play Herbie for six months to a year. The only theatre he's done in the past two decades was playing Hamlet at Yale Rep. He'd be a distraction as Herbie. He is as perfect as I can imagine and if they ever filmed it, it'd be great casting.
I'm always sad he more or less abandoned theatre when his star rose. His Jimmy Tomorrow in THE ICEMAN COMETH and Andrei Prozorov in THREE SISTERS are two of the finest performances I have ever seen. (He put Spacey to shame, if such a thing is possible.) |
