Hard to think of someone better than Brian d'Arcy James, but...

I *love* your suggestion. Brian d'Arcy James emanates kindness and empathy, but also has a sexual energy that I think Burstein lacks. I doubt Michael Cerveris would want to play Herbie at this point in his career, but he too can do gentle and viral at the same time.

If the production wants to go with someone who reads a few years older than McDonald, as Burstein does, I'd suggest Gregg Edelman or Gregory Jbara, who is long overdue to return to Broadway.

A couple of other options whom we haven't seen tread the boards in recent years but could be excellent: J. Robert Spencer and Steve Kazee.
