| Someone (pathman2) on BWW pulled the Phantom seating chart and compared it to this one, and it appears they are ADDING two rows to the front of the orchestra and re-lettering the rest, so what is now Row C used to be Row A. Row A was the 2nd row for Phantom in the center orchestra and 3rd row for the side orchestra. So I would say it's likely that Row C is NOT the front row when all is said and done. It's not unusual for the very first rows to be held back from the pre-sale because they don't know if they will end up with an obstructed view because of design decisions that raise the floor of the stage. I think that happened with The Music Man, where Row A, at least on the side, was released months later (or was it years later? ;) Someone made a lot of interest on that Music Man pre-sale money!). I am speculating that the two new rows in the front are only going to be used if there is no orchestra in the pit. We don't know the design yet, and if there's some reason why the orchestra would be on stage. While reading across the internet about the revival, I saw a very intriguing idea about casting for June and Louise. Although it may not be an all-Black cast, I can't see a scenario in which Audra McDonald and George C Wolfe's vision of the production is one where the rest of the principal cast is white. It would make sense to cast Audra's daughters with Black actors. The intriguing idea was that June would be cast with a Black actress with a noticeably lighter skin tone than the one playing Louise, which brings up issues about the way women of different skin tones are treated by some within the Black community. Louise having a noticeably darker skin tone would be an unspoken commentary about another reason why Rose can not see that Louise has any potential, a reason that Rose may not even realize consciously. |
