I admit I went into the show with trepidation because I’ve sometimes found Ben Platt very affected in his singing style but I thought he sounded very good last night. I enjoyed his original songs and his backup singers and band.
I wish he had done a tribute to Gwen Verdon though. Sweet Charity was the first show to play the Palace as a legit theater and If They Could See Me Now would have been a good song to thing.
I loved his duet with Kristin Chenoweth.
I only found his dancing a bit awkward and I thought wearing the white robe was unnecessary for Maybe This Time.
The Palace looks great. Unless the installed additional bathrooms in house right, I was surprised the bathrooms weren’t larger downstairs. |
