| lol to the lyrics. And I would have preferred a test theater star concert artist open it, but not with a 3 week run. I'm not sure there's anyone but Liza or Hugh Jackman who could pull that off and sell even half the house every single show. Bette Midler... that would have been an amazing residency for 1, 2, or even 3 weeks to re-open The Palace. I would have loved a series, like Bernadette Peters for 3 shows, and Audra for 3 shows, Kristen for 3 shows, and sure maybe Ben Platt, and Patti for 3 shows... maybe some combos like Kelli & Brian for 2 nights, Mandy and Bernadette for 2 nights, Norm Lewis and Sierra Boggess for 2 nights, Ramin and Sierra maybe, or Ramin and Eva Noblezada (I know she's busy right now but you get the point), Billy Porter for 2 nights, Judy Kuhn & Judy Kaye! I don't love Ben Platt. I have loved him in certain things. But I just don't love the idea of him opening the Palace, and I think it's hilariously lacking in a realistic view of himself to book it for 3 weeks. I was actually hoping I was underestimating his popularity as a concert singer, and that he would sell an average of 75% of the house each show. But that would be a pretty impressive thing for any singer who isn't an actual recording star. |
