18/19 season had gettin band back together, head over heels, prom, be more chill which were guaranteed flops.
I didn't see any of these in their original runs, but I have since done productions of Head Over Heels and The Prom, and enjoyed both quite a lot. I'm not sure what makes either show a "guaranteed flop" even if the Broadway productions didn't do as well as they might have wanted.
As for Gettin' The Band Together, I doubt a different title would have done much necessarily, but I remember at the time thinking - what, yet another "band" musical so soon?? (after Bandstand and The Band's Visit).
(And for the record, I saw the HD of Bandstand and really enjoyed it, even though it too was mostly considered a flop. The Band's Visit of course deserved all its accolades and more. I didn't see the "Gettin'" musical.) |
