I saw Swept Away in DC when it had its run at Arena Stage and am baffled how this thing is ready for Broadway. Frankly I spent the last half of it yawning and waiting for it to end. For me it was a huge, boring disappointment with a thin storyline, forgettable performances (even from Gallagher Jr.), and forgettable songs that all sound the same. I’m actually baffled by this decision. It’s probably not going to last very long if it does indeed transfer.
Of course, just my opinion! I could see it doing an off-Broadway run, but straight to Broadway is a head scratcher. Ah well, Broadway in 2024. Throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks. |
