quite a lot of people under 40, especially gays, and probably a lot of girls too, have a connection with the film.
I think the interest of gays and girls in a new musical is pretty important to the sales and social media buzz and content posting/sharing about a show.
Selling a musical based on counting on the need the people who love the movie it's based on to come buy tickets is a foolish venture, and often doesn't work out. I think you have as good a chance of people who love the movie avoiding the broadway musical version of it as that the movie's fans will turn up regardless of reviews. |
