No, they're not. And if your students think that, or fail to find examples of female lead characters and stories, including non-white ones, then that is their failing. Also your students have 75+ years to look at for musicals before & Juliet.
But Lempicka is not "woke" and its failure on broadway has nothing to do with wokeness, perceived or not. And I agree labeling it that is setting us back.
