Back to the Future seems on track to run for two or three years but not even come close to recouping. It's doing good enough business, at least most weeks, to keep running, but not good enough business to ever pay off from the Broadway run. I can only guess at what the weekly nut might be. Perhaps it's lower than I would guess, and so I might end being wrong about it recouping. Or perhaps the tour will do well enough, and whatever money comes to the Broadway production from the tour will help it recoup.

Count me among those who feel that the original Merrily We Roll Along was a terrific show by the time it opened (even if they never solved the opening scene) and that it should have run. If Clive Barnes, who reviewed it favorably in the Post, had still been the Times critic, perhaps it would have.
