What an awful situation.

I'm so curious about the practical on-the-ground realities of a situation like this. The article says that Rodriguez is continuing to travel with the company in the hope that his legal status changes before his contract expires in May. How exactly does that work? Who's pays for his travel and housing expenses if he's no longer employed by the production? Is there a a loophole that would allow the production to continue to pay him without him actually working? The production had to have known his legal status and that this was a possibility, so I'm wondering if they built in a Plan B. And is Rodriguez covered by the production's insurance if he's not actually an employee anymore? If not, I imagine he's not even allowed on the premises anywhere they're performing, but how does that come into play if he's still traveling with the company?

Whatever the production and Rodriguez are doing at the moment to accommodate this situation, I suppose that ends in May, when Rodriguez's contract ends. I cannot imagine the production renewing a contract with a person who's not legally able to work. And then what for Rodriguez?

He's been so brave to speak out on this and I hope that someone somewhere has the money or connections to pull some strings on his behalf. But that still doesn't deal with the larger problem that is likely affecting thousands of people, most of whom aren't playing high profile leading roles in touring Broadway shows.
