I liked a lot of individual moments in the production, but felt unengaged and confused by most of it.

I'm surprised that you've heard mostly positive things about it. I went with two friends, of the three of us, one very much enjoyed it, the other two, "meh".

Even more so, I don't think I've ever heard more scathing intermission reviews. One woman said "I love musicals, but I hate this. I can't wait to go home" and another "How can it talk about such big issues and be so empty at the same time." so. . .
