A Strange Loop blew my mind. I sat in Playwrights Horizons with my mouth open, shocked and delighted and moved ... I kept thinking "these gay secrets, you can't put them in a Broadway musical, straight people would be too shocked!" I saw myself in Usher many times and many ways. But even just as a score and a piece of theater and storytelling, it had me.

For months I listened to the album, especially "Periodically" which destroys me, and "Inwood Daddy" (for the amazing music and effective dramatic turns) and "Memory Song" which destroys me, and laughed and marveled and cried. I posted about it on social media, I told friends about it. I absolutely talked about it here on this forum.

It's an original, audacious, sensitive, messy but brilliant musical that made me so excited. I wanted everyone to know it existed. I was so proud to be part of a theater community where that show could go to Broadway, AND win Best Musical (I was less surprised by the Pulitzer win... but given that something like Caroline or Change wasn't even a finalist, you never know). And I genuinely think it deserved Best Score over Six. (I also would have given it to John-Andrew Morrison over Matt Doyle without question)

I can't wait to see Teeth and what Jackson has up his sleeve in the future!
