Many years ago I was visiting the family of a friend in New Rochelle, and we got talking about theater. I was seeing a lot of plays in those days. He said “Frances Sternhagen lives next door. Would you like to meet her?” He called her up, and she came over. We spent probably a half hour chatting. She couldn’t have been friendlier. Very down to earth. I don’t remember many details of our conversation – it was so long ago -- but I know she asked about the shows I had seen and what I thought of them. Before she left, I asked her what she was doing next. She said she wasn't sure. But she added that I should be on the lookout for the new Neil Simon play – she had heard good things about it. It tuned out the new Neil Simon was “The Good Doctor.” Gustave
