Actually there are five revivals running right now. What's running right this minute is not the point, however. Most revivals have limited engagements or shorter runs for other reasons because most of them are plays. But 13 of the 38 Broadway productions of 2022-23 were revivals, as are 8 of the 34 productions announced so far for this season. That's a very significant percentage of revivals. Moreover, many of those non-revival productions are either jukebox musicals, which might as well be revivals (they live on nostalgia for old music), or shows from previous seasons--even previous decades--that have been running so long they too might as well be revivals. Broadway at the present time, unlike in 1956, is living on nostalgia and memories. And that's my point.
