One major difference between then and now is that, with the exception of the three Shaw revivals (1956 was Shaw's centenary), every show on that list was the original production of a new play or musical. Now, half of what's on Broadway is revivals. It's hard to argue for a Broadway "golden age" when very little that's new (let alone ground-breaking) is being produced, at least by comparison with other times.
