Saw the immersive production of Cabaret in London, now starring Jake Shears and Rebecca Lucy Taylor. Really loved it, have seen productions before including the last Broadway outing but this is the first time I was emotionally involved with the characters as much. It’s just all so well done. There were some weird decisions with the pre show though like shutting the main bar for ten minutes to have someone dance on top of it with a long line of annoyed looking people wanting to get a drink. And some heavy handed herding of people that almost made me want to leave before the actual show started. Will people on Broadway put up with that? I also wondered for possible legal reasons if the cast will touch audience members there as happens here. I was down by the tables in the first row of actual seating in the orchestra and felt very close to the stage for £100, a great alternative to springing for a table.

Jake and Rebecca act the hell out of every song. Beverley Klein and Teddy Kempner were a terrific Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz and had the audience in the palms of their hands. I found the staging to be constantly inventive. I hope you all love it as much as I did when it lands there
