I was out to dinner with some theater friends the other night, catching up on the season so far. After gushing about Merrily, we all agreed that Sondheim was the best composer and lyricist in musical theater history. (Not a groudbreaking claim, to be sure.)
But then we started debating who took silver in both categories. It was funny that we were all in such agreement on Sondheim and then so scattered for runner up. I'm curious what everyone on here thinks! And if you think someone else deserves top spot, I'm interested in that too.
