Paul Alexander Nolan is a wonderful performer, but he's had lousy luck at landing a Tony nomination. * 2016: Nolan got a Drama Desk nomination for Featured Actor in a Musical in ''Bright Star,'' but that feat wasn't repeated at the Tonys. * 2018: Only 5 guys were ruled Tony-eligible for Leading Actor in a Musical. 4 were named, and the odd man out was Nolan (''Escape to Margaritaville''). * 2019: ''Slave Play'' scored a then-record 12 Tony nominations for play, including 5 for Nolan's fellow co-stars, but not one for Nolan himself. * 2024: Nolan might've been the best reviewed in the cast of ''Water for Elephants.'' GoldDerby gave him 9/1 odds to get a nomination, but zilch again. I really thought this ''Elephant''-ine musical would be his big Tony breakthrough. Here's hoping his next show gets this monkey off his back! |
