Yes, and, we don't hear about it. I'm sure most people don't even notice if a comprimario singer is out from a Met performance, or if the swings are on in a Broadway show. Only the big names/leads get the hype.
And there's zero chance that Peter Gelb at the Met is going to make a pre-curtain allergy/indisposition announcement for a singer in a small role. Only the stars get that kind of (ridiculous, IMO) privilege. |
