| Not many black stage artists had the opportunity to make such a mark on the commercial theatre of mid-20th century America. He & Ruby Dee were outliers and deserve to have a theatre named for them. As massive a cultural figure as Lena Horne was, I don't think her contribution to New York theatre comes close to Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee's and I wish there were a twinned theatre where The Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee Theatre could stand next to the Jessica Tandy & Hume Cronyn Theatre. (What a revival of I LOVE MY WIFE that would be!) |
