Oh, absolutely, especially if the pool of people they're drawing from are NYC-area theatre professionals. It's a small world. Even with 50+ nominators, it seems like most years would see half or more having to recuse themselves.
I've always wished that they'd reach out to NYC-area theatregoers/fans to assess qualifications of people who love theatre and go regularly and know a lot about it, but who also don't actually work in the industry and don't personally know many, if any, of the potential players. I'd love to spend time doing this. I'm sure a lot of posters here would. |
