This Gatsby may not have cleaned up at the Tonys, but it's been selling very well in one of the largest theaters. It also has the advantage of name recognition and two very popular Broadway stars as we head into high tourist season. It's not on life support like some other new musicals.
Whether it succeeds or flops, it will definitely be an albatross around the neck of the other Gatsby that didn't make it to Broadway first. I wonder if it'll be like The Wild Party and neither version will successfully crack the code. |
