| That is on advance and discount sales. It has a known story in the novel and two stars (neither of whom unfortunately and perhaps surprisingly received nominations) but no nominations really upon which to build a campaign unfortunately in a truly competitive period. The Wiz as a revival of a very popular and family friendly musical does have an advantage of appealing to families during the summer vacation period and appealing to Black audiences as well. The original production too overcame lukewarm reviews through skillful marketing and its appeal to Black families. Which if wither of these two shows make it will be determined in a few weeks. |
