No, Chazwaza, you were better off not seeing it. We did, and they made (in my view) some truly dreadful cuts and the entire set was dominated by this hideous dead brown swirling tree trunk thing. Characters were sometimes blocked by it, and it looked utterly ridiculous for them to be climbing the stairs in Archie’s house by going behind it. I figured, “Okay, the payoff will be when we get the garden reveal, and the damn thing will somehow bloom.” But no. It remained as ghastly as ever.
All the more disappointing since it was like the second show we’d seen since Covid, and just a few months before my diagnosis and immunotherapy that curtailed theatre-going for me again.
