| Exactly. The choice to make him a tenth grader doesn’t seem to have any benefit that I can tell. I don’t know what point it is trying to make. I’m so not one to clutch pearls about this kind of thing, and yet it still bothered me because no tenth grader has this kind of experience to be able to think about things in this way. It doesn’t make any sense. I’m not scandalized. I’m just baffled. The whole story about what happened to him in the high school bathroom is just ridiculous. That would never happen in a high school. Maybe he’s working through some kind of fantasy about what he wished high school had been like? If so, that is not communicated at al. It’s just bizarre. |
