I was at the last off-Broadway performance of Grey Gardens. I was sat in front of a row of producers who spent intermission dragging Ms. Gettelfinger for "not being pretty enough" to continue to Broadway. They gave other examples of actors who they thought were too "plain" to be cast--many of whom have done just fine--and I will spare you the list. But it was clear they wanted someone they felt was beautiful.

Suffice to say, it was a gross moment.
