I LOVED the original 1985 movie of ''Back to the Future.'' It turned a time-traveling DeLorean into a star vehicle for Michael J. Fox.

But the 2023-24 Broadway model on display at the Winter Garden is a clunker to me: It's a big, bland, by-the-numbers bore. Neither the new songs nor the competent cast ever set my heart racing. ''Back to the Future'' has been translated to the stage without much wit or whit of imagination. Oh, well. Thanks to stage machinery, the flying car finally arrives, so at least the audience gets some ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'' for their buck.
