| But I’m assuming it will be a revival since only the director is the same and it’s a completely new cast. This is incorrect. Yes, Mary Jane has the same director, but also the set designer and sound designer are the same (and these are two most notable design elements for this show, to my mind.) And two of the five cast members are the same. I can't claim to understand the Administration Committee's rationale - Gutenberg! also had the same director as the original Off Bway run, and of course there the design is different because that is the whole point of the transfer (well, that and the duo of Rannells and Gad). But I would bet, given recent history, that Mary Jane will be deemed a new play. That said, I still think Stereophonic is the one to beat, even if it were up against BOTH Mary Jane and Appropriate (which, from all reports, won't be the case, although I'm still waiting for the official announcement on both from the Administration Committee.) |
