I doubt anyone these days is very impressed by the camera crew; I'd guess most people are interested in the fact that they go OUTSIDE the theatre onto the street. I can think of 3 other shows that did that -- and all 3 of them were Ivo Van Hove productions (Network, Roman Tragedies, and The Damned). It's overdone in the sense that anytime you repeat such a memorable gimmick, it will feel like you're re-treading. Especially now that it's a different director effectively copying one of Ivo's bag of tricks. But it's still relatively novel in the grand scheme of things -- especially since most people seeing Sunset will have no idea that Lloyd is doing something Ivo has been doing for 20 years. But if you're talking about live-feed video in general -- yes, it's extremely, extremely common nowadays. I used to keep count of how many shows I saw that used live-feed video, but I lost interest in keeping count because it was being done so much. Granted, many of them are just a static camera, not necessarily a walking camera operator. But still, plenty of them HAVE used camera operators to the point that it doesn't feel novel anymore. |
