| THE CITY OF NEW YORK RENAMES W 48th ST "CHAVKIN WAY" IN CELEBRATION OF TONY AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR RACHEL CHAVKIN AS NEW MUSICAL "LEMPICKA" BEGINS PERFORMANCES AND TONY AWARD-WINNING BEST MUSICAL "HADESTOWN" CELEBRATES 5 YEARS ON BROADWAY New York, NY (March 21, 2024) – Last night, the city of New York renamed 48th Street "Chavkin Way" to celebrate Tony Award-winning director, Rachel Chavkin, helming two Broadway productions right across from one another on that street – Lempicka at the Longacre Theatre and Hadestown at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The highly anticipated musical about the life of renowned artist Tamara de Lempicka, began performances on March 19 to a sold-out crowd, while the Tony Award-winning best musical Hadestown is set to celebrate 5 years on Broadway next month. On hand to celebrate the occasion were stars from each cast including Eden Espinosa, Jordan Fisher, Beth Leavel, Jon Jon Briones, Amber Iman, Isa Briones, Phillip Boykin, and more. A commissioner from the New York City Mayor's office was on hand to give brief remarks and reveal the newly installed street sign. Performances of Lempicka began on March 19, ahead of an official opening night on Sunday, April 14, 2024. The creative team consists of Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin (director), Carson Kreitzer (book, lyrics, and original concept), Matt Gould (book and music), and Raja Feather Kelly (choreography). As previously announced, the cast of Lempicka is led by leading lady, Eden Espinosa as Tamara de Lempicka, and Amber Iman as Rafaela, Andrew Samonsky as Tadeusz Lempicki, George Abud as Marinetti, Natalie Joy Johnson as Suzy Solidor, Zoe Glick as Kizette, Nathaniel Stampley as the Baron, and Beth Leavel as the Baroness with Mariand Torres, Alex Aquilino, Lauren Blackman, Stephen Brower, Kyle Brown, Holli' Conway, Abby Matsusaka, Jimin Moon, Khori Michelle Petinaud, Ximone Rose, Nicholas Ward, Veronica Fiaoni, Mary Page Nance, Julio Rey, and Michael Milkanin rounding out the company. Tickets are now on sale at telecharge.com. Written by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, Hadestown is currently playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48th Street). Hadestown currently stars Grammy Award winner Ani DiFranco as ‘Persephone,' Jon Jon Briones as ‘Hermes,' Phillip Boykin as ‘Hades,' Jordan Fisher as ‘Orpheus' and Isa Briones as ‘Eurydice.' They are joined by, Belén Moyano, Kay Trinidad, and Brit West as the Fates. The chorus of Workers is played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Chibueze Ihumoa, Alex Puette and Grace Yoo. The cast includes swings Sojourner Brown, Brandon Cameron, Tara Jackson, Max Kumangai, Alex Lugo, and Tanner Ray Wilson.
