I have noted a couple of minor goofs concerning theatre history; White's field is actually urban history. But that's what you need for this kind of work, examining the forces involved in the evolution of a commercial industry. His use of maps showing the changes in the craft shops in the theatre district are fascinating. But I'm a sucker for historical maps.
