Here's the book, which was released in November 2014: Blue-Collar Broadway: The Craft and Industry of American Theater (Univ of Pennsylvania Press - Hardcover Book/Kindle edition) By Timothy R. White. The history of craft and industry in American theater, including scenery, costumes, lights, etc. From pre-Broadway years to current day. Includes case studies of Oklahoma! (1943) and Evita (1979), and an exploration of the craftwork of radio, television, and film production around Times Square. 288 pages. Paperback to be released 4/8/16.

I have noted a couple of minor goofs concerning theatre history; White's field is actually urban history. But that's what you need for this kind of work, examining the forces involved in the evolution of a commercial industry. His use of maps showing the changes in the craft shops in the theatre district are fascinating. But I'm a sucker for historical maps. Laura
