I picked The King and I to see on my November trip, because I thoroughly enjoyed the South Pacific revival, I wanted to see Killi O'Hara's performance, and great seats were available. I worried about being disappointed, based on the chatter I read about the show in previews and immediately after opening. I needn't have done so. While clearly "old school" compared to other musicals I saw (Allegiance, School of Rock, Hamilton, Fun Home), it was a delight on all counts. And, the holiday audience (Veteran's Day) that evening consisted of all ages, not just gray-hairs like me. It was thrilling to see young teen and 20-somethings grooving to the great music and enjoying the sumptuous production and large orchestra. I hope that we never lose the ability to enjoy the classics, as well as to appreciate the new.
