Has admin posted the rationale for the various changes

The admin asked that we not kvetch for the first week. Given that the changes are apparently beneficial for the majority, I'll wait to submit bug reports.

The menu bars issue is more or less the same on an iPhone and a Windows 7 desktop.

One difference is that you can briefly avoid the menu bars on an iPhone by scrolling UP rather than down. This doesn't appear to work on a Windows 7 desktop.
