The World Premiere of STRAIGHT, a new play written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola and directed by Andy Sandberg (Application Pending) will open Off-Broadway this February at the Acorn Theatre @ Theater Row (410 W 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036). Starring Jake Epstein and Thomas E. Sullivan, STRAIGHT begins previews on February 9, 2016, with an opening night currently scheduled for February 29, 2016. STRAIGHT will run through May 8, 2016. The World Premiere of STRAIGHT will star Jake Epstein (Broadway’s Beautiful, “Degrassi”) as Ben and Thomas E. Sullivan (The Mormon Bird Play, New York Fringe Festival) as Chris.

STRAIGHT is written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola (Tiananmen, Thucydides) and directed by Andy Sandberg (Application Pending). Additional cast and creative team will be announced shortly.

BIOS

JAKE EPSTEIN (Ben) recently finished a year on Broadway originating the role of Gerry Goffin in the Tony nominated, Grammy winning, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Prior to that, he starred as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. On television, he is best known for playing Craig Manning on “Degrassi”, which earned him a Gemini Award. His other major stage work includes first national tours of Spring Awakening (Melchior), Green Day’s American idiot (Will) and Billy Elliot: The Musical (Tony). He can be seen in the upcoming films Borealis and Fourth Man Out. A graduate of The National Theatre School of Canada, Jake is proud to have co-written his first play, Therefore Choose Life, which debuted in Toronto with The Harold Green Jewish Theatre.

THOMAS E. SULLIVAN (Chris) is very excited to be making his Off Broadway debut in Straight. A recent graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, he received his acting training from the Atlantic Acting School. Los Angeles born and raised. Recent theater credits include Cowboy Mouth (Young Artists at the Chelsea), Die Kleinen (Access Theatre), The Mormon Bird Play (NY Fringe). Recent film credits include Labrador (Lance Edmands).

DREW FORNAROLA (Author) is a playwright and songwriter from New York. He is currently developing both a stage musical and an animated movie for DreamWorks. Film: DreamWorks’ VeggieTales Noah’s Ark (2015), starring Wayne Brady. Theater: Molly Shannon’s Tilly The Trickster (Atlantic Theatre Company, collaboration with Saturday Night Live’s Molly Shannon, pub. Theatrical Rights Worldwide); Claudio Quest (dir John Tartaglia, winner of six 2015 NYMF Awards for Excellence, optioned by Dramatic Forces); Thucydides (Winner Samuel French Play Festival, pub. Samuel French); Vote for Me: A Musical Debate (London Theatre Workshop (2015), and Roy Arias Theater (2014), commissioned by Aged in Wood Prods.); College: The Musical (MTVu Award, Hippodrome State Theatre, pub. Dramatic Publishing Co.); and two musicals for children. ANDY SANDBERG (Director) most recently directed and co-authored the world premiere of Application Pending (Westside Theatre; 2015 BroadwayWorld Award – Best Off-Broadway Play; Drama Desk Award nomination – Outstanding Solo Show). He has previously directed the world premieres of Alan Brody’s Operation Epsilon (Four 2014 IRNE Awards, including Best Play and Best Director; Three 2013 Elliot Norton Award Nominations); Craving for Travel, also co-authored with Greg Edwards (The Peter J. Sharp Theater @ Playwrights Horizons); Shida, an original musical by Jeannette Bayardelle (Ars Nova and A.R.T.; four 2013 AUDELCO Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Director; 2015 IRNE nomination), and The Last Smoker in America, a new musical by Tony nominee Bill Russell and Drama Desk nominee Peter Melnick (Westside Theatre). He has been represented on Broadway and London’s West End as a producer of the hit revival of HAIR (2009 Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle Awards), the Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man (2012 Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle Nominations), and the Broadway premiere of Will Eno’s The Realistic Joneses.
